Turkey prepares for 2026-2027 academic year amid calls for teacher safety

Preparations for the 2026-2027 academic year are underway in Turkey, involving both administrative planning and calls for improved teacher welfare. In Çorum, Provincial Director of National Education Cemil Çağlar led a coordination meeting to discuss school readiness, the implementation of new circulars, and the organization of Primary Education Week events. The meeting focused on identifying institutional needs and ensuring a safe, organized start to the term.

Simultaneously, Türk Eğitim-Sen President Talip Geylan has formally petitioned the Ministry of National Education to address issues regarding teacher safety and professional respect. Geylan proposed that the first week of the new school year be themed ‘I Love My Teacher and My School’ to foster a culture of respect. He emphasized the need for permanent policies to prevent violence against educators and called for enhanced security measures around schools involving local authorities and law enforcement.
