Turkey proposes green passport expansion for seven professions

New legislative proposals have been submitted to the Interior Commission of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey to expand the eligibility for the “green passport” (special stamped passport), which allows for visa-free international travel.

If passed, the regulation would include seven professional groups subject to specific seniority requirements:

• Pilots: At least 5 years of active flight experience following licensure. • Engineers and Architects: Must be members of the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB) with at least 10 years of professional seniority. • Medical Doctors, Dentists, Veterinarians, and Pharmacists: At least 15 years of active professional experience in either the public or private sectors.

The proposal for pilots aims to reduce bureaucratic delays and high costs for airlines caused by visa issues during mandatory simulator training, aircraft deliveries, and international education. For architects and engineers, the measure is intended to facilitate professional development through direct access to global technological advancements. A common security requirement stipulates that applicants must not have active investigations or prosecutions under the Anti-Terror Law.
