Turkey: Protests erupt over animal welfare and dog management

Residents in Turkey are protesting against local animal management and facilities. In the Yıldırım district of Bursa, neighbors in the Mollaarap neighborhood have staged protests against a dog farm. Residents report that the facility causes persistent bad odors, environmental pollution, and constant barking that disrupts sleep, particularly for infants. Tensions rose following an alleged phone call in which the farm owner reportedly refused to move the animals, claiming local authorities could not intervene.

In the Bolvadin district of Afyonkarahisar, controversy has erupted following footage showing dogs being transported in tied sacks inside a municipal police vehicle. The images, which surfaced after a nighttime collection operation, have sparked significant debate regarding animal rights and the working conditions of the local animal shelter. The incident has also led to legal complaints after reports of verbal altercations between citizens and officials during the collection process. The Mayor of Bolvadin, Derviş Aynacı, is a veterinarian, which has added to the public scrutiny regarding the municipality's handling of street animals.
