Animal welfare and management issues in Turkey

Overview

Turkey has seen contrasting developments regarding animal welfare. Community awareness events were held in İnegöl and Kulu to celebrate Animal Protection Day, involving mural painting by students and educational programs by veterinarians to promote compassion and animal rights.

Simultaneously, protests have emerged in other regions over animal management practices. In Bursa’s Yıldırım district, residents protested a dog farm due to environmental pollution, odors, and noise disruptions. In Afyonkarahisar’s Bolvadin district, controversy arose following footage of dogs being transported in tied sacks within a municipal vehicle, leading to legal complaints and public scrutiny of local animal shelter operations.
