Turkey public sector employment rises to 5.4 million
According to data from the Presidency of Strategy and Budget, the number of employees in Turkey's public sector rose to 5,417,126 in the second quarter of the year. This represents an increase of 127,677 people compared to the same period last year.
Of the total workforce, 3,582,025 are permanent staff, 1,267,501 are permanent workers, and 419,801 are contracted personnel. Other categories include 97,381 individuals in various other roles and 50,418 temporary workers.
Administrations under the general budget account for 67.9% of public employment, employing 3,676,689 people. In the higher education sector, including universities and high-technology institutes, the workforce reached 325,021, a net increase of 3,673 compared to the previous year. Additionally, employment in municipal economic enterprises grew by 31,015 to reach 696,178.
