Turkey pursues deeper economic partnership with Germany and South Korea

German Bundestag member and head of the German‑Turkish Community, Macit Karaahmetoğlu, said Turkey is a vital strategic and economic partner for Germany. He warned that if ties weaken, China or other BRICS nations could fill the gap, and called for stronger cooperation while also urging Germany to address democratic and rule‑of‑law concerns in Turkey.

In Ankara, Turkish officials met with South Korean counterparts to discuss a bilateral trade volume that surpassed $50.8 billion for 2021‑2025. The talks covered investment, technology, defense and nuclear‑energy projects, including cooperation on the Altay tank, a second nuclear plant at Sinop, and joint R&D between TÜBİTAK and South Korea’s NRF. South Korean firms have invested $451 million in Turkey, and both sides aim to expand collaboration in AI, battery technology and other strategic sectors.
