President Erdoğan announces legal framework to accelerate PKK disarmament

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said the government is preparing a legal framework that will speed up the liquidation of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and that the proposal will be submitted to parliament “without delay.” He added that the “terror‑free Turkey” process had passed serious tests and that the People’s Alliance aims to complete it during the current legislative term.

AK Party spokesperson Ömer Çelik echoed the president’s remarks, stating that Turkey has entered a new stage of the “Terörsüz Türkiye” process and that “a legal framework will be created to ensure the disarmament and dissolution of the terrorist organization.” The framework will be tied to the PKK’s genuine laying down of arms and will contain provisions to end illegal structures linked to the group.

Saadet Party leader Mahmut Arıkan stressed that the process must rest on clear legal guarantees, institutional integrity and transparent parliamentary approval, warning that the initiative should not be delayed by political maneuvering. Together, the officials present a coordinated push to move Turkey from a decades‑long insurgency toward a formal legal conclusion.
