Turkey records 16th warmest August in 56 years

According to data from the Turkish General Directorate of Meteorology, August temperatures in Turkey averaged 25.7 degrees Celsius, which is 0.6 degrees above the 1991-2020 average of 25.1 degrees. This marks the 16th warmest August recorded in the last 56 years.

Extreme temperatures were recorded across the country, with the highest temperature reaching 46.7 degrees Celsius in the Cizre district of Şırnak, while the lowest temperature was 4.5 degrees Celsius in Ardahan.

Several regions experienced temperatures above seasonal norms, including parts of the Aegean and Marmara regions, as well as various provinces such as Antalya, Mersin, and Edirne. In the Marmara region, the average temperature was 25.4 degrees compared to the long-term average of 24.6 degrees. Similarly, the Aegean region recorded an average of 27.5 degrees, exceeding its long-term average of 26.5 degrees.
