Turkey issues strong rain and thunderstorm warnings for dozens of provinces
The Turkish State Meteorological Service has issued yellow alerts for heavy rain and thunderstorms across 34 provinces, covering large parts of Marmara, Aegean, Mediterranean, Central Anatolia, Black Sea and Eastern Anatolia, as well as the Gaziantep‑Kilis area and eastern Van. The warnings highlight risks of localized flooding, flash floods, landslides, hail, strong gusts and possible tornadoes, urging residents to take precautionary measures, especially outdoors.
Specific forecasts call for intense showers in Konya and surrounding districts on June 13, with temperatures reaching about 25 °C. Similar conditions are expected in other regions, with temperatures remaining near seasonal norms and only modest drops in western areas. The alerts also note occasional fog in the northern Marmara and Black Sea coasts.
The weather pattern follows a notably cool May, recorded as the seventh‑coldest in 56 years for Turkey, with average temperatures 1.4 °C below the long‑term norm.
