Turkey launches 2026 middle school registration, warns against illegal fees

Turkey’s Ministry of National Education has opened the automatic, address‑based registration for the 2025‑2026 school year, with results posted on 3 August 2026. The process uses the MERNİS system, requiring no physical paperwork; parents can check assignments through the e‑Devlet portal or the e‑Okul VBS system.

The ministry also issued a warning that any demand for a “registration fee” is illegal. Minister Yusuf Tekin reiterated that compulsory education is free, and outlined a formal complaint route: first to the district education directorate, then the provincial directorate, and finally the President’s Communication Center (CİMER) if needed.

Additionally, the regulations clarify that certain students may transfer schools without the usual address requirement. Exemptions include children of martyrs and veterans, special‑needs students, those under protective orders, siblings affected by school boundary changes, families with both parents working or with a disabled member, and children of school staff. Applications for such transfers are submitted online via e‑Devlet.
