Turkey reports construction growth, services decline and vehicle registrations topping 34 million

Turkey's statistical office (TÜİK) said the construction production index rose 0.7 % in April compared with the previous month, while the services production index fell 0.6 % over the same period. Within construction, building activity was flat year‑on‑year, non‑building structures grew 12.3 %, and private construction activities increased 2.7 %. In services, information and communication rose 13.9 %, professional, scientific and technical services 8.9 %, and accommodation and food services 4 %.

In May 2026, TÜİK recorded 159,623 new motor vehicle registrations, bringing the total number of registered road vehicles to over 34 million. Cars accounted for 47.5 % of new registrations, motorcycles 37.2 %, light trucks 11 % and other categories smaller shares. The vehicle fleet now consists of 51.8 % cars, 21.4 % motorcycles, 14.5 % light trucks and the remainder trucks, tractors, minibuses, buses and special‑purpose vehicles. Fuel‑type breakdown for newly registered cars showed 32.2 % diesel, 31 % gasoline, 29.5 % LPG, 4.6 % hybrid and 2.5 % electric.
