Turkey reports drop in average family size to three members

Turkey's Family and Social Services Minister Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş highlighted the ongoing importance of the family unit, citing the 2025 Life Satisfaction Survey in which 69 % of respondents named family as their greatest source of happiness and 93.5 % reported being satisfied with their marriage.

Separately, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) released its 2025 family statistics, showing that the average household size fell from four persons to three. The data underscore a demographic shift toward smaller families, a trend the minister linked to broader social changes affecting young people's relationships and expectations.

The minister’s remarks were made during the launch of the Çeyiz Foundation, which supports young couples with wedding preparations, reinforcing the government's focus on strengthening family bonds amid these changes.
