Turkey reports multiple seismic tremors across various provinces
Multiple seismic events were recorded across Turkey on October 12, 2026. According to AFAD data, various small-scale tremors occurred in several provinces, including Balikesir, Ankara, Kahramanmaras, Antalya, Tunceli, and Kayseri, as well as in the Aegean Sea and near the Turkey-Iran border.
Following recent earthquakes in Yalova measuring 2.9 and 3.5 magnitudes, geoscientist Prof. Dr. Osman Bektaş has raised discussions regarding the potential for “slow slip” or creep behavior along the Çınarcık Fault in the Marmara Sea. Bektaş noted that the current micro-earthquake activity in 2026, combined with deformation signals observed around the 2016 Yalova earthquake, may support the theory of creeping fault movement. He emphasized the importance of monitoring these scientific data points regarding the Adalar Fault and potential large-scale earthquake scenarios.
