Turkey reports significant rise in GDP per capita and exports
The Turkish government has highlighted significant economic growth metrics, comparing data from 2002 to the 2025/2026 period. According to figures released by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, the nation's GDP per capita has risen from $3,616 to $18,040. Additionally, exports have reportedly increased from $36.1 billion to $273.3 billion, while Turkey's share of global exports has grown from 0.55% to 1.04%.
Critics have responded to these figures by questioning the achievement relative to previous government targets. While the growth represents a significant increase from 2002, observers note that the $18,040 per capita figure falls short of the $25,000 target previously set for 2023. Furthermore, the current global export share of 1.04% remains below the 1.5% goal originally promised by the administration.
