Turkey reports two serious traffic crashes, one leaving a soldier dead

On 30 June, a car lost control on Posta Caddesi in Istanbul’s Bahçeşehir 2 Neighbourhood, striking parked vehicles before hitting 24‑year‑old Zahide Diyar Demirbaş. She was rushed to hospital and remains in intensive care with severe injuries. The 19‑year‑old driver initially resisted arrest, was released on judicial control, but was re‑detained after the family’s appeal and subsequently ordered to prison.

In a separate incident linked to the Pençe‑Kilit operation area, Ulaştırma Uzman Çavuş Abdurrahman Hilal was severely injured in a traffic accident on 22 May. After eight days of treatment in Ankara, he died on 30 June. His body was returned to Aksaray by military helicopter for a funeral attended by his family and local officials.

Both accidents underline ongoing road safety concerns and legal actions following serious traffic crashes in Turkey.
