Turkey retirement options include debt payments and professional allowances
In Turkey, several pathways exist for citizens to accelerate their retirement eligibility through debt payments and specific workplace benefits.
Women can utilize birth debt (doğum borçlanması) to gain up to six years of premium days, provided they were insured prior to the birth and meet specific service requirements. Applications can be made via e-Devlet or directly to Social Security Institution (SGK) offices. Men may benefit from military service debt (askerlik borçlanması), which can increase premium days and potentially shift the insurance start date backward.
Additionally, the 'wear and tear allowance' (fiili hizmet süresi zammı) provides advantages for those in heavy, dangerous, or exhausting professions. Under Law No. 5510, eligible workers can earn additional premium days and, under certain conditions, receive reductions in the required retirement age. Eligibility for this benefit is not automatic for all in a profession; it depends on the specific nature of the duties, service duration, and proper employer notifications to the SGK.
