Turkey denies claims that traffic radar systems will be privatized

The Presidency’s Dezenformasyonla Mücadele Merkezi (DMM) stated that allegations claiming traffic radar systems will be handed over to private companies and that private firms will issue fines to drivers are completely false. The agency cited Article 114 of Law 2918 on Motorway Traffic, which limits the authority to issue administrative traffic‑fine records to public officials – specifically police and gendarmerie traffic personnel and, in certain cases, staff of the Transport Ministry and the General Directorate of Highways. It explained that technologies such as the Kent Güvenlik Yönetim Sistemi (KGYS) and Elektronik Denetleme Sistemleri (EDS) serve only to detect violations; the data they produce is processed by traffic police or gendarmerie officers, not by private entities. DMM urged the public not to give credence to manipulative and unfounded claims.

The centre’s official statement included the quotation: “‘Trafik radar sistemlerinin özelleştirileceği ve özel şirketlerin sürücülere ceza keseceği’ yönündeki iddialar tamamen gerçek dışıdır.”
