Turkey announces 2026-2027 school calendar and new student programs
The Turkish Ministry of National Education has announced the academic calendar for the 2026-2027 school year. Regular classes for primary, middle, and high school students will begin on Monday, September 14, 2026. Prior to this, an adaptation week for preschool and first-grade students will take place from September 7 to September 11, 2026.
To support the transition for young learners, the Ministry is introducing the ‘Çocuğumla Okula İlk Adım Defteri’ (My First Step to School Notebook) as part of the ‘Ailemle Okul Yolu’ (School Path with My Family) program. This initiative aims to strengthen school-family cooperation by allowing parents to document their children's experiences and developmental milestones throughout the year.
In Istanbul, the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) has announced an action plan for the first day of school. On September 14, 2026, public transportation integrated into the ticket system will be free for passengers between 06:00 and 16:00. The municipality also plans to implement various traffic management and safety measures to handle the expected increase in school service vehicles and student movement.
