Turkey seasonal hazelnut workers establish camps in Ordu and Giresun

In the weeks before the hazelnut harvest, seasonal agricultural workers from Eastern and Southeast Anatolia arrived in Ordu Province and began setting up temporary shelters. By the latest count, 112 tents have been erected at the Turnasuyu site, where health teams conduct medical checks and women prepare meals over open fires. The workers, who say they are in Turkey to earn "bread money," expect to stay for about a month while the harvest proceeds.

Provincial authorities in neighboring Giresun Province have organized parallel support for these workers and their families. The local education directorate will run kindergarten classes, music, art and reading courses for children in the temporary settlement, while a mobile library and sports activities are provided by culture and youth departments. Social services agencies will inform families about assistance for women, children, the disabled and the elderly, and police will forward child‑protection data to ensure uninterrupted schooling.
