Turkey secures release of Global Sumud activists detained in Libya
Turkey’s diplomatic intervention led to the freedom of all ten members of the Global Sumud Black Convoy who had been held for about a month in Bingazi, eastern Libya. After intensive diplomatic talks, including a meeting between Turkey’s intelligence chief İbrahim Kalın and Libyan commander Saddam Hafter, the activists were released.
Six of the activists were flown to Istanbul on Turkish Airlines, while the remaining four were transferred to Tunisia the night before. The release was credited to Turkey’s high‑level diplomatic efforts and international civil‑society pressure.
