Diplomatic tensions between Israel and Turkey have escalated following Turkey's formal request to Interpol for a red notice for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Afek Moskovitch. The request, initiated by the Turkish Ministry of Justice, stems from an Istanbul criminal court proceeding involving 35 defendants. The charges include genocide, crimes against humanity, and torture, related to the Israeli military's armed interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters, which was attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Simultaneously, military friction has intensified in Syria. Israel conducted airstrikes against the Abu al-Duhur airbase, which Jerusalem justified as a preemptive measure to prevent a Turkish military presence in the region. While Israel claims the strike was a warning against Turkish entrenchment in Syria, both Turkey and Syrian officials have denied plans for a permanent Turkish military deployment at the base.

In response to the legal moves, the Israeli Prime Minister's Office has condemned President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, labeling him an ‘antisemitic dictator’ and accusing him of harboring terrorists and destabilizing the region. The exchange marks a significant breakdown in bilateral relations and a shift in regional geopolitical dynamics.
