Turkey seeks Interpol Red Notice for Benjamin Netanyahu

Turkey has requested Interpol to issue Red Notices for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and another official, Afek Moskovitch. The request follows national arrest warrants issued on July 14 involving 35 defendants. The charges include genocide, crimes against humanity, and torture related to the interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian mission bound for Gaza.

Interpol must now verify if the request complies with its regulations, which prohibit notices for activities of a primarily political or military nature. The move has intensified diplomatic friction between Ankara and Tel Aviv.

Simultaneously, tensions have escalated regarding the situation in Syria. Israel has expressed opposition to a potential Turkish military presence in Syria, viewing it as a security threat. This follows recent Israeli strikes on the Abu al-Duhur air base near Aleppo. While Turkey has denied reports of its military delegation being present at the base during the attacks, Ankara has reaffirmed its support for Syrian sovereignty and warned against Israeli aggression in the region.
