Turkey is actively mediating to establish a new grain export agreement between Russia and Ukraine to secure maritime and global food supplies. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that Ankara is in contact with both Kyiv and Moscow to facilitate a deal similar to the Black Sea Grain Initiative, which expired in 2023.

Fidan warned that ongoing drone attacks against vessels in the Black Sea pose a significant threat to international food security, noting that Russia and Ukraine are among the world's leading wheat exporters. The disruption of these shipments raises concerns about rising prices and potential famine in regions such as Africa.

As part of these diplomatic efforts, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin are scheduled to meet in Kyrgyzstan to discuss the Black Sea situation. While Ukraine has proposed a mutual cessation of attacks on civilian targets in the region, Russia has expressed reluctance toward such measures.
