Turkey seeks to deepen bilateral relations with Germany

The Turkish Embassy in Germany has called for a deepening of bilateral political and economic relations between Turkey and Germany. This announcement comes ahead of a celebration in Berlin marking the 65th anniversary of the German-Turkish recruitment agreement signed on October 30, 1961.

Key objectives for the partnership include increasing bilateral trade volumes and making progress toward visa liberalization. The embassy noted that the original labor agreement created a legacy that extends far beyond the initial recruitment of workers, noting that people of Turkish descent now contribute significantly to German politics, economy, science, and culture.

As an example of these contributions, the embassy highlighted the development of a Covid-19 vaccine by Özlem Türeci and Ugur Sahin. The embassy emphasized the importance of maintaining friendship through both good and difficult times, noting that the participation of Chancellor Friedrich Merz in the anniversary event on October 20 is particularly valuable.
