Turkey's Meteorology predicts temperatures near 40°C on July 27

Turkey’s Meteorology General Directorate (MGM) issued a forecast for Monday 27 July 2026 that temperatures across the country will rise toward the 40 °C mark, with the highest values expected in the Mediterranean, Aegean and southeastern regions. Specific city forecasts include Istanbul at 29 °C, Ankara at 26 °C, İzmir at 36‑37 °C, and several inland provinces reaching 38‑44 °C later in the week.

The northeast provinces of Giresun, Trabzon, Rize and the Artvin coastal area are expected to experience local thunderstorms and heavy rain, while the rest of Turkey will see mostly clear or partly‑cloudy skies. Winds are projected to be light to moderate, southerly in the north‑west and northerly elsewhere, and no meteorological warnings have been issued for the day.

The forecast also notes that the heatwave will ease later in the week, with temperatures dropping back toward seasonal normals and a renewed chance of rain in the north‑east.
