Turkey sets July 31 deadline for motor vehicle tax and approves minimum ÖTV tax for cars and motorcycles

Motor vehicle owners in Turkey must pay the second instalment of the Motorlu Taşıtlar Vergisi (MTV) by 31 July 2026. The tax can be settled through the Revenue Administration’s digital portal, mobile apps, bank branches, PTT offices or tax office counters. Payments made after the deadline will incur statutory late‑payment interest.

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey approved a new amendment to the Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) regime. The law introduces a compulsory minimum tax of 100 000 TL for passenger cars and 30 000 TL for L‑class electric motorcycles, regardless of the percentage rate calculated. The minimum amounts are indexed annually. The amendment also grants the president authority to raise or lower these rates by up to ten times, and to adjust tax brackets based on vehicle specifications such as engine size, drive system, motor power, battery capacity and emissions.
