Turkey SUV market boom fuels Renault Boreal launch

Renault announced the pricing of its new SUV, the Boreal, built at the Oyak Renault plant in Bursa. The model boasts over 50% local parts content and qualifies for an ÖTV tax exemption, bringing the net price down to roughly 1.2 million TL. Four trim levels were listed, with list prices ranging from 2.38 million TL to 3.40 million TL and campaign prices between 2.19 million TL and 2.86 million TL.

Data from Turkey’s automotive statistical agency show that SUVs now dominate the domestic car market, accounting for about 65% of new‑car registrations in the first five months of 2024. Sales of SUVs rose from 556,548 units in 2024 to 671,819 a year later, while overall car sales fell 9.6% in the same period. Consumer preferences for higher seating position, interior space and perceived safety are driving the shift, and hybrid and electric variants are also gaining share within the SUV segment.
