Turkey tests first domestic electric high-speed train

Turkey is advancing its domestic high-speed rail capabilities, with the first national electric high-speed train reaching speeds of 250 km/h during testing. Developed by Türkiye Raylı Sistem Araçları AŞ (TÜRASAŞ), the 8-car train set has an operational speed of 225 km/h and a passenger capacity of 577. Testing for dynamic safety is currently underway on the Gebze-Eskişehir and Eskişehir-Polatlı routes.

The train features an aluminum body and includes advanced safety and comfort systems such as automatic braking, electromechanical doors, fully automatic climate control, fire alarm systems, and integrated camera and passenger information systems.

In related infrastructure developments, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu noted that the Ankara-İzmir high-speed train project aims to reduce travel time between the two cities to 3.5 hours once completed. Additionally, the Ministry continues to focus on cultural heritage, having restored 532 historical bridges across the country, including the recently restored Gediz Bridge.
