Turkey to Apply New FIFA World Cup Rules Across All Leagues in 2026‑27 Season
The Turkey Football Federation (TFF) announced that, starting with the 2026‑27 season, all professional leagues – Süper Lig, 1. Lig, 2. Lig and 3. Lig – will adopt the new game‑rule package introduced at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The rollout is coordinated by the Central Referee Committee (MHK) and UEFA. A pre‑season referee seminar will feature a UEFA educator, followed by a press briefing to explain the rule changes to clubs and the public.
Clubs received a notice on 2 July outlining the “Game‑Rules Seminars” and were asked to submit training requests to the TFF by 10 July. The new regulations aim to speed up throw‑ins, goal kicks and substitutions, introduce a five‑second countdown for certain restarts, and expand VAR intervention for faulty corners and second‑yellow‑card situations. The TFF’s goal is uniform understanding and compliance with international standards for the 2026‑27 season.
