Turkey to digitize 216 museums and archaeological sites by 2026
Turkey's Ministry of Culture and Tourism, in collaboration with Türk Telekom, has launched a digital transformation project covering 216 museums and archaeological sites across the country. The initiative aims to modernize cultural heritage sites through a comprehensive technological infrastructure, with a target completion date by the end of 2026.
A key feature of the project is the integration of national ID cards to replace expired Müzekarts. Once users pay the required fees via e-Devlet or mobile applications, they will be able to enter museums by scanning their ID cards, eliminating the need for physical cards or waiting at ticket counters. Existing Müzekarts with valid durations will remain functional.
The technological overhaul includes smart ticketing, multi-channel digital payment systems, and AI-supported data analytics. To enhance the visitor experience, the project will implement augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), audio guides, and digital visitor management. Additionally, the infrastructure will be upgraded with fiber optics, widespread Wi-Fi, and 5G integration. The project also extends to museum shops and cafeterias, and ensures that strategic cultural data is stored securely on domestic infrastructure.
