Turkey to employ 30,000 school security attendants

Turkey's Ministry of Interior has announced the recruitment of 30,000 “garden attendants” (bahçe görevlisi) to enhance security in schools across 81 provinces. Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi stated that this initiative follows recent school attacks in Kahramanmaraş and Şanlıurfa. The new personnel will act as an additional layer of security, monitoring school entrances and exits to track the movement of students, parents, and visitors, and providing early warnings for suspicious activities.

Applications for these positions will be processed through İŞKUR. The recruitment process is expected to be completed before the start of the new academic year, with staff beginning duties on the first day of school. This new model is intended to supplement existing security measures; police and gendarmerie will continue to be stationed at schools classified as high-risk (first and second-degree risk groups).

In addition to physical personnel, technological measures are being implemented. In collaboration with the Ministry of Health, a special emergency button has been added to the 112 Emergency application, allowing teachers to report incidents directly to security units, similar to the KADES application used for women's safety.
