Turkey announces major healthcare recruitment and infrastructure expansion

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced significant expansions to Turkey's healthcare sector during a ceremony at Istanbul University's Çapa and Esenyurt campuses. A major announcement included the planned recruitment of 38,000 non-physician healthcare personnel before the end of 2026. Additionally, a Presidential decree published in the Official Gazette detailed the employment of 31,054 contracted healthcare workers for 2027, primarily consisting of 25,955 specialist doctors and 5,061 physicians to address staffing needs in difficult regions.

In terms of infrastructure, Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu announced that a new 300-bed state hospital in Esenyurt has been allocated to Istanbul University. This move aims to maintain service continuity following the evacuation of the old Çapa mono-block building due to earthquake safety inspections. The ceremony also marked the opening of the new Çapa Internal Medicine Hospital, a 44,000-square-meter facility featuring 186 beds, including 39 intensive care units.
