Turkey to hold TÜBİTAK Sky Observation Event in Afyonkarahisar Aug 12‑15
Turkey’s Ministry of Industry and Technology announced that the TÜBİTAK Sky Observation Event will take place from 12 – 15 August 2026 at Emre Lake in the Frigia region of Afyonkarahisar. Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacır posted on social media, “Rotamız gökyüzü, durağımız Afyonkarahisar!”, inviting astronomy enthusiasts from across the country.
The four‑day program will include daytime astronomy talks, science‑ and‑technology workshops, and safe solar observations using filtered telescopes. In the evenings participants will use telescopes to view planets, star clusters, nebulae, galaxies and the Perseid meteor shower under dark‑sky conditions. Selections will be made by lottery from applications submitted by 19 July via the TÜBİTAK website, with participants drawn from all regions of Turkey. Interactive presentations and workshops by leading scientists will complement the observational activities.
