Turkey to implement digital verification for free train tickets
Turkey is introducing a new digital verification system for citizens entitled to free or discounted train travel. Following data integration between TCDD Taşımacılık A.Ş. and the Ministry of Family and Social Services, eligibility will be verified automatically via national ID numbers during the ticket purchase process.
The system, announced by Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, is scheduled to go into effect on October 29, 2026. This transition aims to streamline travel by removing the requirement to present physical disability, veteran, or martyr relative cards during inspections. Passengers using their T.C. identity cards will only need to present that ID for verification.
However, travelers using alternative identification, such as passports or driver's licenses, must present their physical entitlement cards or live, QR-coded digital documents from the 'Engelsiz Mobil Uygulaması'. Static formats like screenshots, photos, or PDFs will not be accepted for verification. The new system will replace existing manual definitions established since 2014.
