Turkey digital verification for free train travel
Overview
Turkey's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, announced a new digital verification system for citizens entitled to free or discounted train travel. Scheduled to begin on October 29, 2026, the initiative follows data integration between TCDD Taşımacılık A.Ş. and the Ministry of Family and Social Services.
Under the new system, eligibility for groups including individuals with disabilities, veterans, relatives of martyrs, and state athletes will be verified automatically via national ID numbers during the ticket purchase process. This transition aims to streamline travel by removing the requirement to present physical entitlement cards during inspections; passengers using T.C. identity cards will only need to present that ID for verification.
Travelers using alternative identification, such as passports or driver's licenses, must present physical entitlement cards or live, QR-coded digital documents via the ‘Engelsiz Mobil’ application. Static formats, including screenshots, photos, or PDFs, will not be accepted. The new system will replace existing manual travel records established since 2014.
