Turkey to implement digital verification for free train travel

Turkey's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, has announced a new digital verification system for free train travel, set to begin on October 29. The initiative follows the completion of data integration between TCDD Taşımacılık AŞ and the Ministry of Family and Social Services.

Under the new system, eligible citizens—including individuals with disabilities, veterans, relatives of martyrs, disabled duty personnel, and state athletes—can secure free tickets by verifying their rights using their T.C. identity numbers. This digital transition aims to streamline the process, eliminating the need for physical ID cards during train inspections. Passengers will only need to present their T.C. identity cards for verification.

However, those traveling with alternative identification such as passports or driver's licenses must present live, QR-coded digital identity documents via the Engelsiz Mobil application. Static formats, including screenshots, photos, and PDFs, will not be accepted.

As part of the transition, all existing free or discounted travel records established in the ticketing system since 2014 will be deactivated. Affected citizens will be notified of the transition process through SMS and other communication channels. Individuals whose identity verification fails will be directed to the provincial or district directorates of the Ministry of Family and Social Services to update their information.
