Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan Leads Amman Meeting on Jerusalem and Holy Sites
Foreign ministers from Turkey, Jordan and more than a dozen Muslim‑majority states gathered in Amman for a "Jerusalem and Holy Sites Support Ministers Meeting" hosted by Jordan's foreign minister Eymen es‑Safedi. The participants included officials from Palestine, Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Indonesia, Bahrain, Iraq, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Somalia and Malaysia, as well as the Arab League Secretary‑General.
The agenda focused on protecting the historic and legal status of Jerusalem’s holy sites, especially the Al‑Aqsa Mosque, and condemning recent Israeli settlement and restriction measures. Turkey’s foreign minister Hakan Fidan warned that Israel has no genuine peace intent, called for collective diplomatic steps, and linked the issue to the broader Gaza conflict. Saudi foreign minister Faysal bin Ferhan echoed criticism of Israel’s actions in Jerusalem.
The ministers issued a joint 15‑point declaration establishing a permanent mechanism to document Israeli violations in Jerusalem, urging the United Nations Security Council to intervene, and reaffirming that the protection of Jerusalem is an international responsibility. In parallel, Fidan met Jordan’s King Abdullah II, reinforcing bilateral cooperation and regional diplomatic coordination.
