Turkey to recruit 31,000 school security personnel
Turkey is implementing a new security model for schools involving the recruitment of 31,000 garden security personnel nationwide. This initiative, coordinated between the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, aims to enhance student safety while reducing the security workload on police and gendarmerie officers.
Under the new system, schools will be classified by risk level. High-risk schools will continue to have police presence, while lower-risk schools will utilize garden security personnel to monitor entrances and exits. These personnel will report suspicious activities to security units but will not have direct intervention authority. The program is expected to be conducted through the Public Benefit Program (TYP) via İŞKUR, with an estimated 9-month term of service.
Applicants must be Turkish citizens, at least 18 years old, registered with İŞKUR, and not currently enrolled in formal education or receiving social security benefits. The comprehensive protocol, which involves multiple ministries including Education, Health, and Justice, aims to create a holistic safety environment covering physical, psychological, and social aspects of student life.
