Turkey's Trade Ministry clamps down on 400‑TL ice‑cream price in Bodrum

A video showing a single scoop of ice‑cream priced at 400 TL in Bodrum’s Yalıkavak Marina went viral on social media. The footage prompted complaints to the Presidency’s Communication Centre (CİMER) and to the Turkish Ministry of Trade. The Ministry dispatched inspection teams, found that the shop’s pricing violated consumer‑protection regulations, and applied an administrative sanction to the business. The case was referred to the Unfair Price Assessment Board for further review. In its statement the Ministry warned that “no tolerance will be shown for any practice contrary to the obligations regarding price tags, tariffs and correct consumer information.” It also stressed that inspections will continue uninterrupted across all 81 provinces, especially in tourist areas during the summer season.

The action illustrates the government’s response to consumer‑price scandals and its broader effort to curb opportunistic pricing in popular holiday destinations.
