Turkey Transport Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu Highlights $355 Billion Infrastructure Investment and 5G Rollout
At the World Digital Transformation Summit, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu said Turkey has invested $355 billion in transport infrastructure over the past 23 years and expects the spending to add roughly $2 trillion to the economy in the next decade. He referenced PwC and Boston Consulting Group forecasts that 5G could boost global output by up to $1.4 trillion and stressed Turkey’s goal to join the group of countries that both produce and set standards for emerging technologies.
Uraloğlu also announced a $6.75 billion World Bank‑backed loan for a 120‑kilometre railway linking the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, with construction slated to begin this year. Turkey now serves 133 countries at 356 points, ranks third in Europe for airline passenger volume and seventh worldwide, and has expanded its 5G network to about 42 million users. The national fibre‑optic network now totals 680,000 km, supporting the broader digital transformation agenda.
