Turkey unemployment rate rises to 8.1% in July 2026

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) reported a rise in the unemployment rate to 8.1% for July 2026, a 0.5 percentage point increase from the previous month. The number of unemployed individuals rose by 150,000, reaching a total of 2,860,000. Unemployment rates were estimated at 6.8% for men and 10.6% for women.

Employment figures also saw a decline, with the number of employed persons dropping by 388,000 to 32,362,000. This resulted in an employment rate of 48.3%. Additionally, the labor force participation rate fell by 0.4 percentage points to 52.5%, and the total labor force decreased by 238,000 to 35,222,000.

Youth unemployment (ages 15-24) experienced a significant increase of 1.5 percentage points, reaching 14.5%. The idle labor force rate, which includes underemployment and potential labor, rose by 1.8 percentage points to 30.6%. The average weekly actual working hours for employed individuals decreased by 0.4 hours to 42.0 hours.
