Turkey unemployment rises as municipalities announce new job openings

According to August 2026 data from İŞKUR, the number of registered unemployed individuals in Turkey has risen to 2,337,718, representing a 1.57 percent increase compared to the same month last year. The registered unemployed population consists of 51.1 percent women and 48.9 percent men, with youth aged 15-24 accounting for 24.3 percent of the total.

During August, İŞKUR facilitated the placement of 99,815 people into jobs. In the first eight months of the year, a total of 947,120 individuals were placed in employment. The manufacturing industry saw the highest volume of placements during this period. High-demand roles included tourism and hotel staff, unarmed private security guards, and shelf clerks.

Additionally, municipalities and their affiliated companies are conducting various personnel recruitments through İŞKUR without requiring the KPSS exam. These openings cover a wide range of professions, including office staff, drivers, technicians, engineers, nurses, and various skilled trades. Cities such as Eskişehir, Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir are among those participating in these recruitment drives.
