Turkey warns drivers to check licence expiry or face cancellation
The General Directorate of Population and Citizenship has issued a nationwide warning reminding drivers that the "last validity" date printed on their licences must be checked before driving. Licences that have reached or passed this date will be automatically cancelled. New‑type licences are valid for either five or ten years depending on the class, after which they must be renewed at the nearest population office. The agency urged motorists to schedule an appointment promptly to avoid legal invalidity, stating, "Check your driver’s licence; if the validity date is near or has passed, you must renew it at the nearest population office to avoid cancellation."
The reminder affects millions of Turkish drivers and vehicle owners, emphasizing the need for timely renewal to prevent disruption and penalties.
