Turkey warns Greece and Cyprus of heightened arms build‑up

The Turkish Ministry of Defence issued a statement saying it is "closely and carefully monitoring the recent military initiatives of Athens and Nicosia." The ministry highlighted Greece’s acquisition of modern air‑defence systems, artillery, new frigates and fighter jets, as well as its cooperation with Israel and other Western countries. Turkey warned that it is taking "all necessary measures to ensure the security of our country and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus" and urged a dialogue‑based approach rather than an arms competition in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean. The remarks were made during the ministry’s regular press briefing and also noted that the increase in Greek defence spending is primarily a matter for the Greek public to consider.
