Turkey weather alerts: Heavy rain and storms forecast across multiple regions
The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued widespread weather warnings across Turkey, forecasting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds. In the Western Black Sea region, wind speeds are expected to reach between 40 and 60 km/h, with some coastal areas potentially seeing gusts up to 100 km/h. Authorities have warned citizens to be cautious of risks such as roof damage, falling trees, and transport disruptions.
Specific regional forecasts indicate heavy precipitation in areas including Hatay, Trabzon, Rize, Gümüşhane, and parts of Adana, Sivas, Artvin, and Erzincan. In Van, four districts—Bahçesaray, Çatak, Başkale, and Gürpınar—are under storm alerts. Additionally, rainfall data from Konya shows significant local variations, with Derebucak recording the highest amount at 67 kg/m².
Recent meteorological data from September reveals a trend of increasing instability, with 66 meteorological disasters recorded across the country, including 24 instances of heavy rain and flooding. Temperatures are expected to remain below seasonal norms in many western regions, while eastern parts will see temperatures closer to seasonal averages.
