Meteorological alerts issued for heavy rain and dust in Turkey and Cyprus
Meteorological agencies have issued widespread weather alerts across Turkey and Cyprus. In Turkey, the General Directorate of Meteorology has issued yellow code warnings for 19 provinces, including Adıyaman, Ağrı, Bingöl, Bitlis, Diyarbakır, Elazığ, Erzurum, Hakkari, Hatay, Kars, Malatya, Muş, Siirt, Tunceli, Van, Batman, Şırnak, Iğdır, and Osmaniye. These alerts warn of heavy thunderstorms, potential flash floods, lightning, and hail.
In addition to heavy precipitation, authorities have warned of dust transport in Southeast Anatolia, which may reduce air quality and visibility. While some regions face severe weather, others like Istanbul and Bursa are expected to experience milder, partly cloudy conditions with rising temperatures toward the weekend.
In Cyprus, recent data shows significant rainfall, with Sipahi recording 55 kg per square meter over the last five days. Lefke also saw 4 kg of rain in the last 24 hours. Globally, experts are monitoring a potential magnetic storm caused by solar activity, with an 80 percent probability of plasma clouds reaching Earth by Friday, potentially affecting the geomagnetic field.
