Weather alerts issued for Azerbaijan and Turkey amid heavy rain
Meteorological services in Azerbaijan and Turkey have issued widespread weather alerts as seasonal transitions bring rain and storms to the region.
In Azerbaijan, the National Hydrometeorological Service predicts October temperatures will remain near or slightly above climate norms. Heavy precipitation, including potential thunderstorms, hail, and lightning, is expected in the first half of the month, particularly in mountainous areas.
In Turkey, the General Directorate of Meteorology has issued yellow code warnings for numerous provinces, including Istanbul, Izmir, and Bursa, due to expected heavy rainfall and storms. Authorities warn of risks such as sudden flooding, landslides, and lightning. Winds are expected to reach speeds of 40-70 km/h in the Marmara, Aegean, and Black Sea coastal regions.
Specific local alerts include the Istanbul Governor's Office warning residents in Şile, Pendik, and Tuzla to prepare for heavy rain and high winds. In Bursa, municipal teams have been placed on high alert to manage potential flooding and infrastructure issues. Other regions, including Van, Rize, and Artvin, are also bracing for significant thunderstorms and temperature drops.
