Turkey weather alert: Heavy rainfall and storms expected across multiple provinces
The Turkish General Directorate of Meteorology has issued widespread warnings for heavy thunderstorms and intense rainfall across several regions, including the Marmara, Aegean, and Mediterranean coasts. Significant rainfall is expected in provinces such as Istanbul, Izmir, Muğla, Aydın, Antalya, and Bursa, with some areas facing very heavy or severe precipitation levels.
Authorities have warned of potential risks including flash floods, landslides, lightning, local hail, and strong winds reaching speeds of 50 to 70 km/h. There is also a risk of tornadoes in coastal areas. In the Aegean and Mediterranean regions, specifically in Muğla and Aydın, rainfall amounts could reach between 30 and 75 kg/m².
In addition to the western and southern coasts, heavy rain is also forecasted for parts of Central Anatolia and the Eastern Mediterranean, including Adana, Osmaniye, and Hatay. Residents are advised to take precautions against flooding and transportation disruptions, while drivers should be wary of reduced visibility and water accumulation on roads.
