Turkey weather: High temperatures and upcoming rainfall

Turkey is experiencing significant weather shifts, characterized by high temperatures in some regions and impending rainfall in others. According to the General Directorate of Meteorology, August 2026 was recorded as the 16th warmest August in 56 years, with temperatures in Şırnak's Cizre reaching 46.7 degrees Celsius.

Currently, several provinces are seeing summer-like heat. Muğla is expected to reach 36 degrees in Milas and Yatağan, while Denizli may hit 37 degrees. In the Mediterranean and Aegean regions, clear skies and high temperatures are prevalent. However, temperatures are expected to fluctuate; for instance, Ankara is projected to reach 34 degrees before dropping significantly by mid-week.

Rainfall is forecasted for various regions. Istanbul is expected to see a change in weather starting Sunday evening, with Prof. Dr. Orhan Şen warning that temperatures will drop by 4-5 degrees as rain arrives. Other areas, such as Çanakkale, Konya, and parts of the Black Sea region, are also anticipating thunderstorms and showers in the coming days. In Van, local thunderstorms are expected in eastern districts like Başkale and Çaldıran.
