Turkey weather: Heatwaves in south and heavy rain warnings in north

Turkey is experiencing diverse and extreme weather conditions across various regions. In the southern provinces, such as Muğla and Antalya, temperatures are expected to reach as high as 40 degrees Celsius, maintaining summer-like heat.

In contrast, the northern and eastern regions, particularly the Black Sea coast including Rize, Trabzon, and Artvin, are under meteorological warnings for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. These 'yellow code' warnings highlight risks of flooding, landslides, and lightning. In response to these conditions, the Trabzon Governor's Office has issued a ban on swimming in the sea for September 7, 2026, to ensure public safety.

Political figures, including AK Party Vice President Nilhan Ayan, have emphasized the need for disaster prevention measures in Rize, noting the region's high annual rainfall and vulnerability to natural disasters. Meanwhile, other areas like Elazığ have already experienced sudden heavy rain and hail, causing localized flooding. The weather is expected to fluctuate significantly in provinces like Nevşehir, which may see sharp temperature shifts within a single week.
