Turkey and Austria face extreme weather alerts

Meteorological agencies in Turkey and Austria have issued various weather alerts. In Turkey, the Meteoroloji Genel Müdürlüğü and AKOM have warned of significant weather shifts. Many regions are facing thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, with specific warnings for the Black Sea, Mediterranean, and Aegean regions regarding risks of flash floods, lightning, and hail. Conversely, a heatwave driven by African and Persian air masses is expected to raise temperatures in cities like Istanbul to between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius over the coming week.

In Vorarlberg, Austria, GeoSphere Austria reports that while upcoming rainfall may provide relief to parched landscapes, it is unlikely to fully resolve the ongoing drought. The region has experienced significantly below-average precipitation since last winter, and experts warn that extremely dry soil may struggle to absorb sudden heavy rainfall effectively.
